Reloading Problem: Lee Safety Primer Feed Jams
After three years and over 15,000 successful reloads made with the Lee Safety Primer Feeder Md: 90997, my feeder started to jam. The primers started to jam at the neck of the primer tube and not fall down to the feeder mechanism automatically they way it used to. A few light taps would usually knock them free, until today. The problem has gotten worse over the past 6 months. Now the primers will not drop at all.
How To Fix The Lee Safety Primer Feeder Model 90997
To fix the feeder take it apart and clean it. Remove the clear plastic cover, remove the two little screws and pull the pieces apart (see the picture). The circular primer holder is attached to the connecting tube with friction only. Just pull it apart. Clean all the parts and thoroughly dry before reassembly.
Note - I found my feeder to be covered with a coating of a yellowish substance from the primers. The coating was invisible to my naked eye but is readily apparent by the swipe of a Q-tip.
After cleaning and reassembly my Lee Safety Primer Feeder worked again like new.
Conclusion
The Lee Safety Primer Feeder Model 90997 is a great feeder that has performed flawlessly for reloading over 15,000 rounds of 9mm ammo. If handled with care and and with a little periodic cleaning it should last forever.
