LVE 10 9mm Luger Ammunition Casing

I picked up some brass the other day at the range. Included was a copper colored 9mm Luger casing with a head stamp of "LVE 10". It makes a different sound than regular brass when dropped onto a table top. See also Ammunition Reloading Instruction & Reviews.

I tried to research it online and did not find much. Someone thought it may be Russian made and suggested to see if it was magnetic.

I tested it with a magnet and sure enough it was magnetic which means it was made of steel and not brass or copper.

I then sliced off a piece of the case with a Dremmel and scraped the surface to look at the bare metal. It had the look of steel.

Close inspection of the primer pocket indicates that the primer is painted in or sealed with some type of sealant. Further inspection of the case interior showed two flash holes instead of one.

I don't think I will be reloading this case.

I followed the link and it took me to a Russian website for the LVE Novosibirsk Cartridge Plant.

From what I interpret from their website the cartridge/case is Russian made. The LVE marked on the head stamp stands for Novosibirsk Low Voltage Equipment Plant plc. (LVE Plant).

The copper colored 900 Luger LVE case that I found appears to be from a Military Cartridge.
