Ruger LCP Extractor Exploded View & Components
The Extractor Assembly consists of the
following components.
-
Spring Part No. SC06450 (key #3)
-
Plunger Part No. SC04600 (key #4)
-
Extractor Part No. SC01400 (key #5)

Tools
- Spent 38 Special Case. Grind or sand the case rim to 14/32" or
about .43".
- Little Nail or Rod about .059 diameter. Grind the nail tip to make it
flat. Remove all sharp edges.
- Pin, Sewing Needle or Dental Pick (used to pluck out the
extractor).
- 1/8" Punch (used to reinstall the extractor plunger assembly).
|
 |
Place the 38 special case
between the breach face and extractor claw. Push up gently.
Don't push up too far, just enough to make the extractor stick
out through the side of the slide. This will relieve some of the
extractor spring
tension and will allow you to insert the little nail.
Note: If you push up too far it may be hard to remove.
|
 |
Insert the little nail
into the hole in the slide.
|
|
Then remove the case.
This may require some force depending on the size of your 38
special rim.
|
|
Apply left to right pressure on
the little nail to relieve spring pressure on the extractor. Use
the pick or needle to pluck it out. It will come out
easily. (I haven't tried it but you may be able to turn the
slide upside down and have the extractor fall out by itself, but
be careful not to let the little nail come out.
|
|
Extractor is now removed.
WARNING - DO NOT REMOVE THE LITTLE NAIL AT THIS TIME. If you do,
you will be releasing the spring pressure and the extractor
spring and extractor plunger will shoot out. You may end up
losing them.

RUGER LCP EXTRACTOR SPRING AND PLUNGER REMOVAL
WARNING: Removing these parts is easy. Installing them by yourself is
harder than it looks. You need the right tools, strong hands and
coordination. A helper would be nice. They can insert
the little nail while you compress the extractor plunger
assembly. One person can do it, but be prepared to spend a lot of
time and effort when doing it for the first time. ONLY REMOVE
THE EXTRACTOR SPRING AND PLUNGER IF YOU HAVE TO!
|
|
This is what the extractor slide
chamber looks like.
|
|
Since the extractor spring and
plunger have a tendency to shoot out when the little nail is
removed, block the exit path with a q-tip.
|
|
Just to be on the safe side
cover it with a paper towel too, then remove the little nail.
You will feel and hear the release of the extractor spring and
plunger but it will be contained.
|
|
REMEMBER THIS ORIENTATION OF THE
EXTRACTOR PLUNGER. It is important that when you reinstall the
plunger assembly it is positioned the same way. Note that the
"sharp" edge of the plunger faces the outside of the slide.
|
|
Carefully remove the plunger and spring.

This extractor, spring, plunger and the extractor chamber were relatively
clean as evidenced by the Q-tips.

RUGER LCP EXTRACTOR ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION
|
|
Reinstall the extractor
plunger assembly into the slide chamber. Position it such that
the "sharp" edge of the plunger faces the outside of the slide
and the plunger hole matches the hole in the slide.
|
|
Use the punch or other tool to
align and compress the extractor plunger assembly.
|
|
Make sure everything lines up.
|
|
Push down on the plunger to compress the spring until the
holes align.
THIS IS THE HARD PART
|
|
Re-insert the little nail to
contain or block the motion of the plunger assembly.
THIS IS THE HARD PART
|
|
To insert the extractor, again
push left to right on the little nail and place the back end of
the extractor into the access hole. Reinsert the 38 special case
between the breach and claw. Only use enough pressure to relieve
the spring
pressure on the nail so it can be lifted out.
Remove the little nail.
|
Perform a functional test of the extractor by
loading a magazine with dummy ammunition and manually cycling the slide.
Ensure proper function of the extractor.

Removing The Ruger LCP Extractor
Removing the Ruger LCP extractor is easy. Here is a
good video on how to do it.

Detail strip the L C P Slide?
Ooben, Here is the complete procedure. Just behind the extractor is
an access "hole" on the outside of the slide. The extractor
"plunger" also has an access hole in it. Place a very small pin
punch through the hole and through the plunger hole and push or
"lever" backward the spring loaded plunger. This will "free" up the
extractor to come right out the side of the slide. If it has "gunk"
in the recess then use a small jeweler's screwdriver to "lightly"
ease it out. Now pull the pin punch out while "restraining" the
extractor hole to prevent the plunger and spring from going into
"orbit". The plunger has a small projection on the front of it that
"locks" into the back of the extractor to retain the extractor in
the slide. Clean the slot thoroughly with a solvent soaked "pipe
cleaner", dry and lightly oil the plunger and spring and assemble in
the "reverse" direction. That's it!....Dick
