TYPES OF RELOADING PRESSES
Single-Stage Reloading Press

Advantages
Lower cost, best alignment of die & ram, Smaller and
lighter, Higher Strength, Low maintenance |
Disadvantages
Slow reloading (You must change out and adjust dies
every time you change operations |

Turret Single-Stage Reloading Press
|
| Features a multi-station top turret with
multiple die stations |
Advantages
Faster reloading, multiple dies, allows the use of
threaded powder measures (eliminates need for a powder measure
stand), low maintenance, moderate cost |
Disadvantages
Potential for slight misalignment of die & ram common,
increased cost, Not quite as strong as a standard press |

Progressive Reloading Press
|
Much faster loading
than single-stage presses. With each throw of
the handle, several operations take place at
once.
Station 1 - the shell is resized and de-primed
Station 2 - the shell gets primed, charged with powder and
flared at the mouth to accept the bullet
Station 3 - a bullet is placed into the case mouth by hand, then
seated
Station 4 - the case is crimped.

Advantages
Fastest way to reload

Disadvantages
Highest cost, High-maintenance, Often proprietary (the
press may only accept dies and equipment made by the same
manufacturer (which may be more expensive and more difficult to
obtain) |

Reloading Hand Press
|
Hand-held loading are small, portable, easy
to use and allow you to load anywhere (such as at the range or
out in the boonies).

Advantages
Lowest cost, portable, low maintenance, slower
reloading
|
Disadvantages
Slow reloading, some take proprietary dies, may require
greater strength and be harder to operate due
to greater force required for sizing, etc. |

BUY A SINGLE STAGE PRESS
If you have lots of time and little money and don't do a lot of
reloading.
BUY A TURRET PRESS
If you are a beginner re-loader or do a fair amount of reloading
but don't want to spend a lot of time or money.
BUY A PROGRESSIVE PRESS
If you are loading primarily for pistol and plan to do a lot of
reloading, have plenty of money and little time.
