What Is a Center Fire Cartridge? (Ammunition)

A center fire cartridge is a metal ammunition cartridge which employs a centrally located primer at the base of the cartridge. This differs from a rimfire cartridge which utilizes the explosive priming mixture in the rim of the cartridge. Center fire cartridges can be reloaded, while rimfire cartridges cannot.
