Smokeless Powder
Smokeless Powder is a propellant used in firearms. It isn't "smoke free" as the name implies but produces a small amount of smoke as compared to the older black powder that was used previously. It leaves a small amount of residue that is non-corrosive. Black powder leaves a heavy, fouling corrosive residue. The invention of smokeless power made possible the development of modern semi-automatic and automatic firearms which would not be able to operate with the corrosive and heavy fouling of the black powder.
